Insurance producers and adjusters

Insurance

State department of insurance, usually through NIPR.

Who needs this license

A person or firm that sells, solicits, or negotiates insurance generally needs a producer license from each state where that work happens. Independent adjusters are licensed separately in many states. This site covers the filing desk, not product appointments or surplus-lines details.

Typical filing path

Most producer and adjuster applications run through the National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR) or the state department of insurance. Resident licenses come first; non-resident licenses typically follow via reciprocity once the home-state license is in force.

Federal layer

Insurance licensing is state-based. There is no federal producer license. Some federal programs (flood, crop) add their own authorizations on top of the state license.

How to find the state desk

Start at the state index and open the financial regulator listed there, then follow that agency’s insurance, contractor, or charities links. We do not generate 50 thin pages for adjacent filings.

Agency names and filing paths are public facts from state regulator sites, the NMLS / CSBS agency directory, and published statutes. License categories and exemptions change. Confirm the current checklist on the official site before you apply. This is not legal advice and not a fee schedule.
